Plate XIII-1

Normal platelets.

Plate XIII-2

Severe thrombocytopenia. Absence of platelets in this field.

Plate XIII-3

Marked increase in platelets. Some increase in platelet size. (Compare to normal platelets).

Plate XIII-4

Thrombocythemia. Increased number and size of platelets. Two are approximately the area of red cells. A lymphocyte is also in the field.

Plate XIII-5

Giant platelets (megathrombocyte).

Plate XIII-6

Giant platelets as large or larger than red cells (megakaryocyte cytoplasmic fragments). All of the blue- and gray-staining elements in the field are platelets.

Two dwarf megakaryocytes with cytoplasmic blebs. Megakaryocyte cytoplasmic fragments and giant platelets.
